2026-05-18 — BedrockNews hits 201 DAU; marketing mechanics in the seat
Format. Short milestone capture — not a full periodic update. The 201 DAU record is the kind of single data point that needs to live in the dated archive before it gets lost to the noise.
The milestone
Friday, 2026-05-15: B4M hit 201 DAU — a record for us, with BedrockNews as the DAU leader.
The proximate cause: Riley Greer's first Reddit ad campaign under the new BedrockNews positioning. The structural cause: the tier reorganization earlier this week put BedrockNews at Forge #1 by readiness, and the Three Lenses analysis named distribution as the bottleneck. Riley executed against that.
This is the first audience-establishing data point that confirms Lane A of the Three Lenses sequencing recommendation is real and working.
What changed in the operating model
Two things, both new this week:
- Riley Greer is in the marketing seat — hired specifically to make the marketing mechanicals excellent. Google Analytics, A/B testing, ad buying, daily social posts.
- The principle “Show up and do the work — 85% is mechanics” — now Operating Principle #10. The 201 DAU result is the first proof: mechanics applied consistently move the numbers immediately. Permission to be unglamorous is the productivity unlock for marketing.
What this updates in the framework
The Three Lenses page was written naming distribution as the bottleneck and the four remedies as build / hire / partner / buy. The hire question was named as “probably the highest-leverage move not yet on the page.”
That move is now made. The forward question is no longer who runs distribution — it's are the marketing mechanicals excellent? The framework has been updated to reflect this.
What I'm watching next
- 30-day retention curve on the BedrockNews audience that arrived via the Reddit campaign. Was the 201 DAU number sustainable, or a spike?
- Funnel from BedrockNews to StocksAndVibes once the login-system port lands. This is the test of the distribution-establishing → distribution-consuming hand-off that the Three Lenses synthesis predicts.
- Whether the marketing mechanicals stay excellent as the campaigns multiply. The principle says 85% is showing up; the test is whether the team treats mechanics as the work, not the prerequisite.
